  • People with no moisture concerns.

Simba mattress protector composition

The Simba mattress protector is a luxuriously soft extra layer of protection designed to be wrapped over your mattress to safeguard it against dirt and bacteria.

It is made of pure, breathable 200-thread-count cotton with a 200 gm fill and is infused with hypoallergenic anti-microbial Bi-Ome [1] technology that prevents odours and protects against micro-organisms.

  • Cover and skirt: 100% cotton
  • Quilt filling: 97% cotton and 3% other fibres
  • Lining: 100% polypropylene

While many mattress protectors also feature a thin waterproof film, the Simba mattress protector is not waterproof, and the polypropylene layer only acts as a barrier to moisture.

This means that if you’re prone to night sweats, a hot sleeper, or enjoy your morning coffee in bed, the Simba protector will not fully safeguard your mattress against any moisture, spills, or stains. 😅

If you are looking for a waterproof mattress protector, we’d recommend checking out a few of our favourites below.

Our favourite waterproof mattress protectors:

What does sleeping on the Simba mattress protecter feel like?

Cheap mattress protectors, often crinkly and plasticky, seem to have given mattress protectors a bad rep.

But if you’re investing in a quality product, you won’t get any of the downside - just the upsides of extra protection.

Of course, the Simba mattress protector doesn’t have a waterproof film, so you won't have to worry about the potential of any crinkly noises.

Soft, quilted feel

Many mattress protectors are super thin layers of extra fabric, but the Simba mattress protector is a more premium product with a thicker, quilted feel, allowing it to act like an extra layer of comfort.

Of course, a mattress protector is not a mattress topper, and it cannot change the actual feel of your mattress, but a quilted protector will add just a hint of extra comfort to transform your sleep. 🤗

This protector has definitely been designed with comfort in mind.

Enhanced breathability

Some mattress protectors stop airflow, creating a hotter and more uncomfortable sleeping environment and increasing overall body temperature.

But since the Simba mattress protector is made of 100% breathable cotton, this will not be a concern.

Unfortunately, the prominent blue Simba label will shine through white sheets.

Quite the opposite, the Simba protector enhances optimum airflow, ensuring your mattress and bedding get to shine in keeping you cool and comfortable all night long, and preventing you from overheating.

Water-resistant protection

Even though the Simba mattress protector isn’t waterproof, it is still water-resistant, ensuring that it’ll catch some moisture and give you a few seconds head start in addressing any accidental spills. 💦

Look at the below images that show the water seeping through onto our mattress:

water on the simba mattress protector

water on mattress cover

In our tests, we spilt water over the mattress protector, and the additional layer gave us about a minute or two to react before the water seeped through the protector and onto the mattress.

This is quite bad - other cheap water-resistant protectors we've tested gave us up to 10 minutes to react before the water seeped through onto the mattress.

We would definitely not recommend the Simba protector if you’re a very heavy sweater, as moisture may seep through the protector and into your mattress.

How to wash the Simba mattress protector

Mattress protectors don’t need to be washed as often as your bedding, but we’d still recommend washing them once a quarter or so.

A machine-wash at a high temperature will kill any bed bugs, dust mites, or other nasties that may have found their way into your bed.

Simple Simba mattress protector washing instructions: Pop the protector into your washing machine with similar colours on a normal 40 cotton cycle and hang it up to dry.

Do not use biological and/or enzyme-containing detergents for your protector - you should always look for non-bio detergents to wash your Simba protector.

You can also tumble-dry the protector on a low-heat setting. ♨️

For the best protection against dust mites and bed bugs, you’ll want to look for products that can be machine-washed at 60. This is more rare for mattress protectors, though, especially those with a waterproof coating. The Hypnia mattress protector would be one great option.

Simba mattress protector sizes

Conveniently, the Simba mattress protector is available in a wide range of both UK and European sizes.

These include:

  • Simba single mattress protector UK: 90 x 190 cm (3’ x 6’3”)
  • Simba small double mattress protector UK: 120 x 190 cm (4' x 6'3")
  • Simba double mattress protector UK: 135 x 190 cm (4’6" x 6’3”)
  • Simba king bed mattress protector UK: 150 x 200 cm (5’ x 6’6”)
  • Simba super king size mattress protector UK: 180 x 200 cm (6’ x 6’6”)
  • Simba mattress protector EU single: 90 x 200 cm (3’ x 6’6”)
  • Simba mattress protector EU double: 140 x 200 cm (4’7” x 6’6)
  • Simba mattress protector EU queen: 160 x 200 cm (5’3” x 6’6”)

The EU sizes are particularly convenient if you have an old IKEA mattress or an EU-sized sofa bed like the Bruno sofa bed or the Emma sofa bed.

The Simba mattress protector is available in both UK and EU sizes.

Unlike duvets, mattress protectors have the same dimensions as your mattress.

How deep is the Simba mattress protector?

The Simba mattress protector has been designed to fit mattresses up to 40 cm (15.7 inches) deep, regardless of whether you’re going for one of the Simba Hybrid mattresses, Simbatex mattresses, are any other mattress.

This is great news if you have a very luxurious mattress, like the Simba Hybrid Luxe, or if you’ve placed a thicker mattress topper, like the Hypnia mattress topper, on top of your mattress.

The elasticated edges ensure a snug fit over your mattress.

Like a fitted sheet, the mattress protector has elasticated bound edges so you can tuck it over your mattress very neatly.

A mattress protector is designed to fit over your mattress, mattress cover, and mattress topper but underneath your sheet.

What does the Simba mattress protector cost?

As a premium product, the Simba mattress protector does not come cheap, and it’s significantly more expensive than other protectors we’ve tried. 💷

Of course, most protectors don’t have a luxurious quilted feel, but many are fully waterproof, which is definitely a huge downside to the Simba mattress protector.

Simba mattress protector discount codes

The Simba mattress protector is delivered neatly folded in a cardboard box, minimising the use of plastic (the box will usually come wrapped in a shipping bag for protection).

We’d recommend giving the mattress protector a wash before putting it on your bed.

Unfortunately, there is no trial period - but the Simba protector does come with a 1-year guarantee.

Should you buy the Simba mattress protector?

The Simba mattress protector is a premium product made of high-quality materials and offers a luxe, quilted feel. ⭐️

If waterproofing isn’t a major concern for you and you have the budget available, then this will be a fabulous choice to enhance your sleeping environment.

That said, we really weren't impressed by the water resistance (and lack of full waterproofing) of this protector.

For the price, you'd expect something that will safeguard your mattress from stains and moisture, and you'd likely be better off investing in something like the Nectar mattress protector or Hypnia mattress protector instead.
